The standard measurement of gold is the Karat (K).
- 24K gold is pure gold, meaning 24 out of 24 parts are gold
- 18K gold is 18 parts gold and 6 parts othr alloys
- 14K gold is 14 parts gold and 10 parts other alloys
- 10K gold is 10 parts gold and 14 parts other alloys. This is the minimum karat that can be called "gold" in the U.S.
In Europe, the same principle applies, but the markings are different.
- 999 (for 99.9% gold) equivalent of 24K gold
- 750 (for 75.0% gold) equivalent of 18K gold
- 585 (for 58.5% gold) equivalent of 14K gold
- 9K gold is sold in Europe but not in the U.S.
